What if you find an orphaned or injured animal?


Orphaned

  • 1. Look for parents in the immediate vicinity.
  • 2. Look for other young.
  • 3. Look for nesting site. If possible, return young to nest.
  • 4. If you have to chase it down to catch it, probably it needs NO help.
  • 5. If truly an orphan, place animal in a warm, dark box and keep quiet.
  • 6. Contact local wildlife mgmt teams, or a vet, in your area for assistance.

Injured

  • 1. Approach slowly, from rear if possible.
  • 2. Cover animal with towel or blanket, use care to avoid further injury to the animal or yourself.
  • 3. Place animal in a cardboard box. Be sure box is well ventilated before using it.
  • 4. Contact local wildlife mgmt teams, or a vet, in your area for assistance.

CAUTION Use CARE when handling to avoid inflicting further injury to animal. Be aware that the animal may struggle and be prepared to protect yourself from sharp beaks, talons, teeth, and claws.


If rescuing the animal may pose a danger to you, PLEASE CALL US. Please do not attempt to handle potentially dangerous animals.
